How much weight can you lose in a week? There is no easy way to answer this question, unless, of course, we are to believe numerous weight loss products that claim you can lose anywhere from 10 to 25 pounds in a week. So what is the real answer?

How much weight can you lose in a week if you follow diet fads? Fad diets do not work in a long term, but they can produce a short term weight loss. However, just because you can lose some weight by following a bad diet plan, does not mean you should actually try doing it.

So how much weight can you lose in a week on, say, a juice fast? You can expect to lose anywhere from 1 to 10 pounds. Not surprisingly, results vary from one individual to another; most people are not going to lose 10 pounds in a week. The point is that even if you manage to lose 10 pounds in one week, you will be putting your health in danger. Why? Because a juice fast is essentially a starvation diet. Bad, bad, idea!

How much weight can you lose in a week if you exercise vigorously every day for seven days? None! Let me explain.

I have said it before and I will say it again, exercise is overrated. Do not get me wrong, I am not saying you should not exercise. Just the opposite, exercise is very important, but the idea that all you need to do to lose weight is to start exercising like crazy is terribly flawed.

Without changing your eating habits, a lot of exercise will do more harm than good, it stresses your body, which may weaken your immune system and make you feel drained and tired. Worst of all, after all that effort, there is a very good chance that you weight is not going to change.

Why? Because to lose weight, you need to expand more calories than you consume. Just because you exercise, it does not mean that you actually expand more calories than you take in daily.

How much weight can you lose in a week if you take diet pills? None! Diet pills are kind of like fad diets, they promise a lot but they do not deliver. And some diet pills are downright dangerous for your health, even if they are sold at your local health food store.

How much weight can you lose in a week if do the right thing? By doing “the right thing” I mean that you should plan your weight-loss strategy and have realistic weight-loss expectations. Realistically, you can expect to lose 2 pounds a week.

Note: If you do not lose 2 pounds after the first week, it does not necessarily mean that you are doing something wrong. Stay calm and continue with your plan. For some people, it takes more than one week until the results are reflected in the scale weight.

The planning part simply means that you should carefully pick a diet that fits into your lifestyle. It has to be a diet plan that you feel comfortable with. If you do not feel comfortable with a given diet, you are not going to follow it for a long time.
