The Brain Diet is aiming to dispel any lingering doubts about a connection between our mental health and our eating habits. Wait! The Brain Diet?

I know that approximately two-thirds of my brain is composed of fats, but I do not think I want to put my brain on a weight loss diet. And even if the brain does not have a localized center of consciousness, somehow, my consciousness is telling me that The Brain Diet book is just another permutation of the “metabolic type” or “blood type” fad diets.

Well, “The Brain Diet” might be an unfortunate name for a book like this, but it is not a fad diet. In fact, it does not have to be a diet book at all; rather, it is a well written, easy to read book that gives you all necessary pieces of nutritional information that you can selectively apply to improve your existing diet.

In other words, it empowers you to make smart food choices, but it does not stop there. The Brain Diet clearly demonstrates how nutrition plays a key role in our mental health. So next time you see a car running a red light, try to catch up to it, and offer a driver an escort to a nearest health food store.

Although the book is well researched, I would not call it a revolutionary way of looking at how nutrition affects our mental health, but it does contain the latest research on this subject.

It was interesting to read how seemingly minor changes in our diet could play a significant role in our ability to achieve full cognitive capacity.

For women who are pregnant, or thinking of becoming pregnant, the book offers invaluable information about a critical role of proper nutrition during pregnancy and lactation. It also explains what you can do to increases the chance of trouble-free development of your child in early life.

The book does not contain any quack cures, and it is surprisingly light on supplements. It recommends a daily multivitamin, Omega-3, and a few other supplements.

In essence, The Brain Diet book is a guide that can help you not only lose weight, and improve your overall health, but while you are at it, perhaps even sharpen your intellectual prowess.
