What is behind America Ferrera‘s recent body makeover? She has stopped eating all the wrong things at all the wrong times for all the wrong reasons, says an insider close to the 23-year-old: “America never ate breakfast,” says the insider, “so her energy would lag in the afternoon.”

Plus, she’d turn to junk food for comfort when she was stressed – an all-too-common problem. It is known that food could become a dietary antidepressant for some women.

America has been doing a stress-busting hiking-and-yoga regimen, says the insider, and adopted a healthy-eating plan to stay energized. By eating breakfast and small snacks, she now has fewer cravings for doughnuts and croissants on set.

Her new diet and exercise plan has recently helped America lose about 8 pounds and go down two dress sizes, says the insider. Still, for America, weight loss isn’t about impressing on the red carpet. “A perfect body doesn’t fix all your problems or make you love yourself more,” she’s said. “It’s all about being comfortable in your own skin.”

America Ferrera’s Diet

Breakfast On the go, America eats low-fat yogurt with fruit, says an insider. An egg and whole-grain bread would work, too.

A.M. Snack America curbs hunger pangs with a handful of unsalted raw almonds. Fresh fruit, like oranges or bananas, can also do the trick.

Lunch America, says an insider, has ditched past for a turkey-breast rap or Chinese chicken salad (with a side of dressing).

P.M. Snack Instead of America’s old choice – potato chips – a good choice would be whole-grain crackers with peanut butter or low-fat cheese.

Dinner A grilled-chicken fajita or a plate of stir-fried veggies and brown rice is a healthy way for America to enjoy her favorite cuisines.

Dessert A small scoop of ice cream tames America’s sweet tooth. Also try a piece of antioxidant-rich dark chocolate. [via]
