Is Snooki anorexic? Is Snooki bulimic? The rumors about Snooki’s anorexic troubles are not new, but are they actually true? Given what we know about Nicole Polizzi’s diet, I am not surprised that the answer to both questions is yes. Unfortunately, Snooki used to be anorexic and bulimic. The good news is that she is doing great now. She has even managed to gain too much weight, but to her credit, she did not do anything irresponsible to lose 10 pounds, she has lost 10 pounds safely to be in good shape for Jersey Shore‘s third season.

Snooki’s anorexia and bulimia deconstructed So how did it happen? Well, in short, it was a combination of things, you know, body image issues, peer pressure, poor diet choices, etc. If you want to know more about Snooki’s anorexic experience and how she has eventually overcame it, here is an excerpt from a recent interview with her on this subject.

When did your troubles with dieting begin? It started when I was a junior. The reason I did it is because I was very self-conscious about cheerleading. There were these little freshman girls, and I was scared that these little freshman girls were going to take my spot. I just started eating salads and salads. Then I got to a point where I was just eating a cracker a day. And I was down to 80 pounds.

You also tried binging and purging? When I was 18 – I noticed that I went up a pants size. My pants size used to be zero, but then I went up to a 1. I was like, “Oh, my god. I’m a 1; this is weird. I need to lose weight fast.” So I figured that eating and then throwing up… you know, you can lose weight fast doing that. But I didn’t like throwing up.

So you did not keep doing it? That did not work for me. I did not like throwing up, and it scared me. It burned my throat, and I had to keep flossing. It just was not healthy for me.

But you were starving yourself. How did you hide it? I have no idea. I think about it now, and I’m like, “How did I do that?” I was eating a cracker a day, and I would be full.

Were you obsessing over your weight? Yes, in senior year, I had lunch for fifth period. I would go into the nurse’s office and go on the scale. Finally, she took the scale down so I couldn’t check my weight anymore.

Were you ever scared you were doing harm to yourself? I had to talk to a doctor, and he told me, “You know, you can actually die from this.” That scared me. I almost died. I do not want to die. I love my life. I had just gotten too out of control.

How did you overcome your issues with food? In high school, my weight was a very big deal, but when I went to college, it was not as big of a deal to me, and I got over it pretty quick, which is surprising to me.

You started eating again? You know how in college you are eating all kinds of crappy food. That is when I started eating bagels again. I was like, “Ah, screw it; I will just eat.” I was not, like, downing cheeseburgers. I just started eating like a regular person again. And I started to gain the weight back. I really did not have any problems in college because I was too busy worrying about my studies.

What advice would you give someone who thinks they may have eating issues? I would just say that you should lose weight in more healthy ways. You can die from anorexia. You are not getting the nutrition and the vitamins you need. You body is just running down. If you really want to lose weight, do it the healthy way: Eat salads. Get a new routine. Go to the gym. Be smart and healthy. Honestly, you just have to be happy with yourself. [via]
