Given the obstacles she was facing, Kirstie Alley’s weight loss is an example of what a little bit of planning and perseverance can accomplish. You go girl!

Now 75 pounds slimmer, Kirstie Alley was confident enough to wear a bikini on Oprah. And she is just getting started, according to her recent interview in the People magazine, she is planning to appear in a bikini in a series of Jenny Craig ads.

Kirstie Alley’s weight loss is certainly impressive. So how did the 55-year-old Alley go from 220 lbs. to 145 lbs. and what is her advice? Here is what she recommends:

Come up wit a grand plan, then set small targets. “I put mine on 20-lb. markers,” she says.

Find a fun incentive: “Every time I lost a pound, I’d set a pound of lard on this big tray. When you lift it up at that 40-lb. mark, you get real proud.”

Work out from the start: “If I’d been more discipline in the beginning, it would have made the end easier.”

Get over yourself: “It’s every woman’s nightmare to put on damn bikini. I just hope [my doing it on TV] makes everyone more relaxed about it.”

Kirstie Alley’s Diet and Workout: she eats 1,500 calories to maintain her current weight (one Jenny Craig meal, grilled fish, asparagus and salad). Her workout is dancing and walking on the treadmill.

She says that goals are key to her motivation, but now she has found a new source of strength. “Things aren’t particularly tempting for me because I like the way I look”. “I like the energy level, and I don’t want to do anything to destroy it. This is probably the first time in my adult life where I’ve had an extended period of sanity in regards to the way I eat,” says Alley.

Part of that sanity involves allowing herself the occasional indulgence. “If it takes a year or two to lose weight, and 98 percent of the time you’re spot on, who cares?” she says. “Usually when people screw up, they go, ‘What’s the use?’ You shouldn’t punish yourself – just keep moving toward your attainable goal.”

According to People, she believes in celebrating too – and what is a celebration without a treat? Immediately after the Oprah taping Kirstie Alley went straight to Chicago’s famed Garrett Popcorn Shop for a couple of popcorn balls.
