What made Jennie Garth join Season 5 of Dancing With the Stars? “Temporary insanity!” jokes Garth, 35. But six weeks into the ABC competition, the only thing crazy is how amazingly fit her 5-foot-5 physique has become. “I have the kind of body that once you start exercising, it responds,” she says.

In a recent interview, Jennie Garth has revealed how she got in great shape and answered questions about her weight loss and diet.

Most noticeable results? I’ve never really been a fan of my legs, and all of a sudden I thought, Hey, my legs look great! They’re more shapely. And since dancing is all about holding your shape using your core muscles, my abs came back on their own – without having to do any situps – so that was exciting!

How much weight have you lost so far? About 10 pounds, but it’s more about the inches and toning. My jeans were a 29 when I started, and I’m wearing a 27 now. It’s great to be able to go to the back of my closet and get the clothes I wore [prebaby] and know that they’re going to fit.

Has your diet changed? I eat a lot now. I’m always hungry. And when you’re rehearsing for six hours, sometimes you forget to eat. I snack on a lot of energy bars while we’re working, or a banana just to keep me going, and then I’ll eat a giant sandwich. I’m just burning through it. Now I can eat and not worry about it. Like, I love a late-night Dorito. The other night, I went into the kitchen at 2 a.m., cracked open a Sprite and in the dark I ate a bag of Doritos.

Was getting in great shape a goal? No, I just thought that’ll be a great perk! But being in good health is important to me. I have cardiovascular disease in my family – my dad is very sick with heart disease.

Whose body on the show inspires you? It’s hard not to admire Julianne Hough’s body. I look at her and think, What a nice little tushy! And then I have to remind myself that she’s 19. The guy dancers all have great bodies, too. They don’t have any body fat. And they love to show it. They can’t get enough of themselves in the mirror! [via]
