The Biggest Loser Abigail Rike‘s weight loss is an impressive achievement. In fact, Abigail Rike’s weight loss is completely shocking, not because she has lost a lot of weight, but because she had to overcome an unimaginable sadness and emotional pain to lose any weight at all. In 2006, she lost her husband and two kids in a horrible car accident. Do you see now why Abigail Rike’s weight loss cannot be simply measured by how many pounds she has lost?

Clearly, starting The Biggest Loser at 247 pounds, and keeping in mind the challenging circumstances she was in, nobody could have predicted that Abigail Rike’s weight-loss results would be so inspiring. How much weight has she lost and how fast? She had no idea how to lose weight, let alone how to lose weight fast, but she started losing weight at a pretty fast pace. The 5-foot-4 Abigail has managed to sustain a weight-loss rate of 4 pounds a week, and she ended up losing 82 pounds, which brought her weight down to 165 pounds.

How has she lost 82 pounds? Has she discovered fat-burning foods? No, she has not. What about sugar detox? Well, sort of, but not exactly. And if you think high-fiber foods dominated her daily menu, it was not the case either. Surely, then, to lose 82 pounds in a relatively short time, she had to be pretty much obsessed with fat-burning cardio or some other form of exercise, right? Wrong! I mean, of course she exercised, but it was not an intense form of exercise most people seem to think they need to lose weight.

Abigail Rike’s weight loss deconstructed Here is how she did it: An ice cream lover, Abby found that she could get the same sweet satisfaction by eating sugar-free frozen yogurt. “Do not go back to the same restaurant where you once indulged. Find a new place that won’t trigger that. And eat with people who support you,” says Abby.

“Spend the money on a personal trainer. Look until you find the perfect match,” says Abigail, who was on Jillian Michaels‘ team on the show.  “Too many people live for that one high-calorie day,” says Abby, who switches up her cheat day so she can indulge when she feels like she has to.

While Rike says it is all about moderation, she suggests trying new good-for-you foods until you acquire a taste. “It is so easy to fall into that trap,” says Abigail. Instead of always noticing what other people look like, “focus on what you can do and your own ability level.” Rike cooked several chicken breasts and then refrigerated them. “In the long run, it is quicker than going out to eat,” she says. [via]
