Kimberley Locke has recently revealed how she lost 28 pounds as a contestant on VH1′s Celebrity Fit Club and went from 176 lbs. to 148 lbs. She also has modeled for the Lane Bryant clothing line and become a spokesperson for Jenny Craig.
How do you feel now that you’re slimmer? I like the new me. I feel healthier. I feel prettier. I feel sexier.
Do you have a weight goal? On Celebrity Fit Club my weight-loss goal was 28 pounds. My weight-loss goal for Jenny Craig was 40 pounds, so I’m almost there.
What helps you stay focused to lose weight? Throwing away my fat clothes, because I know that if I gained my weight back, then they’re not there for me to jump right back into.
What did you think when you were asked to appear on Celebrity Fit Club? I was hesitant. I’ve always been really comfortable with my weight and my body. I had to decide if I was up for the challenge. Once I made the commitment, it was scary because I knew I couldn’t fail with America watching – that would be humiliating.
Did you feel pressure to lose weight? My fans were unsupportive in the beginning. They thought I was a sellout. But if people can’t be happy for me doing something good for myself, then it doesn’t matter what they think.
Have weight issues always been something you’ve dealt with? I never dealt with it until I got into the industry and Hollywood. I’m from the South, and all my friends are big, so if you saw them, you’d be like, “Oh, you don’t have a weight problem.” But when you get to Hollywood and you’re the biggest thing walking around, the weight shifts – literally.
Are you using Jenny Craig now? Yeah, the food is amazing. Even though the show is over, I’m still doing Jenny Craig because I want to lose another 10 pounds.
Have you tried other diets? No, because I never thought I had a weight problem. For me, it’s about being healthy. There are so many girls in magazines with eating disorders. I think young girls need a positive role model.
I want people to know that if I can do it on my crazy schedule, then you can do it too. I want to let people know it’s not easy, it’s not a quick fix. I’ve been doing it for six months and I still have 10 more pounds to go.
Do you ever slip up on your diet? Trust me, I have off days. I had a cheat day at McDonald’s. It was the best cheeseburger and fries that I had in my life! But now when I have an off day, it’s much easier for me to get back on track.
What workout tips can you pass on? Jumping rope – especially for women – is one of the best exercises that you can do. Thirty minutes of jump-roping burns about 350 calories. It’s a tough workout. [via]
