What is effective weight loss? It is everywhere. Look around you, there are plenty of people who look fit and healthy.
Maybe they did not have to lose weight to look that way (lucky bastards) – or maybe, against all odds, they lost weight and were able to maintain it – – that is effective weight loss.
How many times have you heard people wisecrack that they lost 100 pounds in the last year – the same 10 pounds over and over again? Is it any wonder? After all, some people use jaw wiring to lose weight.

Is jaw wiring an effective weight loss program?
Of course it is – if you cannot open your mouth, there is a good chance that you will eat less. Unfortunately, even the most liberal studies show that weight is regained when jaws are working again – – this is not a good way to lose weight.
What about Burger King? If you eat there, would it still be possible to achieve that effective weight loss? I do not see why not, but think Rocky (the movie). Let me explain.
My favorite meal at Burger King, which I shall eat one day, is a BK Stackers quad burger, large fries, and a large Coke – – this monstrosity has 1,790 calories.
21 – that is the number of times I would have to run up the steps of the Philadelphia Art Museum (remember Rocky Balboa?) to burn 1,790 calories. There are 97 stairs. Brutal? Yes! But what about other, less painful ways to lose weight? What can you do?
To determine lifestyle strategies for the most effective weight loss, “researchers at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention surveyed nearly 600 successful losers on their efforts. Here is what they found.”
Ate more fruits and vegetables – 71%
Exercised at least 30 minutes a day – 47%
Planned meals – 36%
Lifted weights – 19%
Jogged or ran – 10%
In addition, those who skip workouts are 76 percent less likely to maintain their weight loss. [source]
