Chelsea Handler‘s diet? “I love the sweets,” reveals Chelsea Handler, who says she just cannot resist Jolly Rancher candy. While Chelsea Handler’s diet is far from perfect, Handler does get many things right. One example?

She does not deprive herself, but Chelsea realizes that dieting is no laughing matter sometimes: “It’s about diligence. Avoid the carbs. I love the carbs; my big problem is sugar.”

Here is Chelsea Handler’s diet – and what nutritionist Oz Garcia says about some of her choices.

Breakfast “I have either a protein shake or a protein bar,” Chelsea says about her a.m. meal – a great way to start the day, Garcia thinks. But he would not eat just a protein bar every day – most people need a little more fuel to jump-start their metabolisms. Of course, Chelsea does indulge: She says she usually has a bagel at the studio on Thursdays.

Lunch “I usually make my own lunch, bringing extra turkey,” Chelsea says about her meat choice, which Garcia calls “a great lean protein.” When Chelsea doesn’t brown bag it, she goes to a place like LA hotspot Katsuya, where she loves the yellowtail fish, clams and albacore tuna. Garcia gives a thumbs-up to sushi, seaweed salad and edamame.

Snacks Chelsea says she quenches her thirst with Crystal Light and Diet Canada Dry Ginger Ale. She satisfies her sweet tooth with Jolly Ranchers (the watermelon and apple flavors) – and pomegranates in season. “Pomegranates are a superfood, rich in antioxidants,” says Garcia, who suggests pomegranate juice as an alternative to diet drinks.

Dinner “We go out to dinner almost every night, so it can get crazy,” says Chelsea, whose top dishes include tomato flat bread with whipped burrata, sautéed sea scallops, and black cod with spaghetti squash. Garcia simply suggests avoiding deep-fried or processed foods and “watching out for butter and hidden calories in sauces.” [via]
