Personally, I don’t believe for a second that Angelina Jolie is anorexic or have an eating disorder of any kind, but here is what Star reports on her recent weight loss.
When Angelina Jolie arrived at the Golden Globes on Jan. 15, many were shocked by how frail the once curvaceous actress looked.
Indeed, sources say The Good Shepherd star, 31, has barely been eating – and that her grief over the Jan. 27 death of her beloved mother may push her over the edge.
“She’s rail thin,” says a source of Angie, who is estimated to carry just 118 pounds on her 57″ frame, while 140 pounds is the norm for her height. “You’re afraid to hug her because she might break.”
Not Eating?
How could this happen? In a word: stress. “Angie doesn’t seem to have a healthy appetite,” says a source. “When she’s depressed or stressed, it’s worse.” Right now, Angie is likely both, since mom Marcheline Bertrand lost her battle with ovarian cancer.
“When someone close dies, everything changes, including your physical habits,” explains Russell Friedman, co-author of The Grief Recovery Handbook. “It’s common to not eat. It just doesn’t seem important to some people who are grieving.”
It seems that even before her mom’s death, food wasn’t that important to Angie. She reportedly fainted three times last October while shooting A Mighty Heart in India, and a source told Star at the time, “she’s been surviving on trail mix.”
Part of the problem may be that Angie gets so involved caring for her kids (Maddox, 5, Zahara, 2, and Shiloh, 8 months), she neglects herself. “She has coffee and makes breakfast for the kids.
Before she knows it, it’s dinnertime and she hasn’t put a morsel in her mouth,” says a source, adding that Angie opts instead for ginger root and garlic tea – supposed appetite suppressants.
Why would already-thin Angie worry about her weight? She may fear a fuller figure will drive away Brad, 43. After all, when Brad was with exes Gwyneth Paltrow, Juliette Lewis and Jennifer Aniston, they were at their thinnest.
Sources also say Brad isn’t a big eater, so the women he’s with often skip meals, too. Finally, Angie may have been stung when, during her pregnancy with Shiloh, Jen reportedly sniped that Brad would be turned off by her “wider and wider rear end.”
But sources say Brad is now deeply concerned about how thin she’s become: “He’s worried. He tries to plan meals, but she doesn’t seem interested.”
Fortunately, for now, “Angelina is underweight, but not anorexic,” says nutrition expert Dr. Andrew Larson, co-author of The Gold Coast Cure’s Fitter, Firmer, Faster Program.
“But at 5’7″, going under 112 pounds would be a problem.” That means Angie is only an estimated six pounds away from being in trouble.
