Must Try

America’s Next Top Model 7 will debut on September 20. As previous “Top Model” shows, it is expected to be a huge hit. But what does it mean to be “America’s Next Top Model”?

Perhaps a better question would be – What does America’s next top model represent? Is it beauty, health, fashion, or all of the above? It seems for many girls it represents a certain image.

In preparation for a recent top fashion show in Spain, one aspect of this image was booted off the stage. They used BMI Index to determine if the models are too skinny. Unsurprisingly, as much as 30 percent of the models did not pass the test.

What was surprising is that a sponsor of America’s Next Top Model show seemed to agree with the decision to test models: “I think it is great to promote health.”

We already know that Body Mass Index (BMI) calculator is flawed. I bet more than 50 percent would not pass if they had used a better testing method.

However, I think America’s Next Top Model 7 show would send a good message to young women, if they decide to run the same test. Will they run the BMI test? They certainly can if they want to.

According to the same article, “…fashion shows reflect the tastes of clothing designers, who for now prefer the Kate Moss look…

Who cares what designers prefer? We are talking about an image idolized by the thousands of young women. It is in America’s Next Top Model power not to accept anorexic looking women.

After all, the show’s name is America’s Next Top Model. Is it not? When did it become America’s Next Anorexic Top Model? All they need to do is to run the test. It would send a clear message to these designers – the “face” of fashion is not an eating disorder!

All designers depend on fashion shows to show their work. If a few more shows reject anorexic models, they will quickly change their designs.

Look at the pictures of Tyra Banks. She looks very healthy. America’s Next Top Model 7 is her show. She is known for helping aspiring models to achieve their goals. Seems to me, a healthy “top model” goal, would be a great addition to the show.
