You On A Diet: Dr. Oz Diet, Weight Loss and OprahAs I write this, You: On A Diet: The Owner’s Manual for Waist Management, by Michael F. Roizen and Mehmet C. Oz, is the most popular book on Amazon.

It is the number one book on Amazon’s best sellers list followed by You: The Owner’s Manual: An Insider’s Guide to the Body that Will Make You Healthier and Younger by the same authors (Michael F. Roizen and Mehmet C. Oz).

Dr. Oz’s diet plan has been featured on Oprah and other shows. Oprah loves his approach to diet, weight loss and exercise. The reason? Although Dr. Oz’s diet is not for those who are looking to lose a lot of weight fast, his basic principles are sound:

Ditch sugar, avoid bad fats (hydrogenated oil) and simple carbohydrates (bleached/enriched flour, high fructose corn syrup) – eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, lean protein, and exercise.

Dr. Oz and Dr. Roizen explain why you should cut your calories by only 100 a day, why eating breakfast is very important, how to stop sugar craving, why your scale weight is not a measure your weight loss success, the science behind belly fat, and a lot more.

These books are informative, but amid recent news of the worldwide obesity crisis, it seems as if we should all diet. However, did you know that dieting is not for everybody?

Not everyone should diet. Women who are pregnant, for example, should postpone losing weight. The American Dietetic Association, in fact, advises that a weight gain of at least 22 – 26 pounds in pregnancy is important for the health of the baby.

And, women who are breastfeeding need even more calories and nutrients than those who are pregnant. So, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, see your physician for advice on what and how much to eat.
