You on a Diet Book
You on a Diet Book: You on a Diet by Michael Roizen, M.D., and Mehmet Oz, M.D., is not like other weight-loss books. It does not focus on weight management. Its focus is on waist management.
It prescribes a 14-day diet plan which is based on three meals a day plus snacks. It is a good eating plan because it spreads out your daily calorie intake throughout the day, which is a good strategy to keep hunger at bay.
You are not allowed to eat simple carbohydrates (think white flour, refined sugar, and anything with high-fructose corn syrup). Products that contain trans fats and an excess amount of saturated fat are not allowed either.
Philosophy: The authors say, “The more you diet, the more you will fail.” You on a Diet is not your typical diet; in fact, some experts say that this plan is not a diet at all. What is it? It is a way of eating designed to use your body chemistry – not your willpower – to help you successfully lose inches from your waist.
It teaches to pay closer attention to your body’s cues regarding satiety so you stop eating when you’re full. It is not hard to understand how your body works, if you do, you can expect to lose 2 inches off your waist in about two weeks. You will also learn how to maintain a permanently trim waistline.
Components: You on a Diet gives you more than enough choices for meals, snacks, and drinks; however, there is a catch – do not worry you do not need to drink wheatgrass juice or do a colon cleanse – one meal, preferably breakfast or lunch, should be the same every day.
According to the authors, people who eat less variety tend to lose more weight. They also recommend that less than 50 % of your daily calories come from carbohydrates. You are encouraged to eat lean protein, whole grains, unsaturated fats, reduced-fat dairy products, vegetables, fruits, and nuts (think almonds and walnuts). Some form of daily physical activity also is part of the plan.
Designed For People Who: If you want to know how your body works and what the latest scientific research says regarding weight loss, You on a Diet is a book for you. In addition, people who don’t need support groups and are disciplined enough to follow the plan outlined in the book, like this plan as well.
Should You Consider It? Yes, if you are looking for a sustainable weight-loss plan.
My Opinion: You on a Diet is a book full of practical advice which I think is easy to implement for most people. It is not a boring read and the plan is pretty straightforward and reasonable. It is no secret that many diet plans are rather restrictive, which makes them hard to follow; You on a Diet is different, it doesn’t restrict whole categories of foods.
It does, however, help you avoid certain foods that often help people gain weight. In short, the plan’s goal is to help you develop healthy eating habits that you can continue to use after you reach your weight-loss goal.
