Yoga Ed and the Yoga of Relationship

Yoga Ed and the Yoga of RelationshipTara Guber is not just another Hollywood wife.

Her 41-vear marriage to famed movie producer Peter Guber is a pillar in her life, but this mother of four, devoted yogi, author of Contact: The Yoga of Relationship and education advocate is a peaceful powerhouse in her own right.

A native New Yorker, Guber received a degree in education from Syracuse University and began teaching elementary school in Brooklyn. “I had these great pupils and I realized how much I love being in a classroom. Being a teacher made a difference – and that was before making a difference became hip!”

After moving to L.A. in the late ’60s, Guber decided to make a difference in other ways: first, by starting a non-profit organization called Education First!; later, by founding The Accelerated School in South Central Los Angeles.

Guber’s boundless energy stems from a love of life and family but also from her 30-year yoga practice, which began with internationally known instructor Alan Finger. She has since studied yoga and meditation with masters all over the world.

Seamlessly, Guber has made The Accelerated School a home base for Yoga Ed., her nationally recognized program that uses creative play to teach the postures and philosophy of yoga to children. In six years, Yoga Ed. has been implemented in more than 150 schools.

“I began to realize all that yoga could do for my own growth. The best gift I could give to the world is the gift of yoga,” she says.

Continuing along that path, Guber brings yoga to friends and lovers alike with her book, Contact: The Yoga of Relationship. “Everyone wants a relationship, but no one knows how to have one.

In Contact, we use partner yoga to explore how to open ourselves physically so that we can be in relationship with another person. We explore trust, passion, commitment, love, communication, vision and union. There’s no better way to grow than to have fun.” [source: C Style]
