On the May 14 finale of CW’s America’s Next Top Model, Whitney Thompson became the reality show’s first full-figured champ after she outstrutted the competition in a Versace fashion show in Rome. In a recent interview, the 5-foot-10, size-10 Whitney Thompson gives the scoop on her big victory.

How does it feel to be the first “curvy” winner? It’s so exciting for me because I feel that I have a message. Why isn’t there anyone else with this body who is a role model? I have big hips. I just do.

But you’re in fantastic shape! What’s the trick? I do run, but it’s more for my mind. It’s all about finding a balance, and if you’re starving yourself – I mean, those girls are skinny, but they’re not happy. You just have to listen to your body. And if my body says, “You want chocolate,” then I’m going to give it chocolate.

People are saying you were told to gain weight before the competition to become plus-size. Any truth to that? No, that’s dumb. No one told me to gain or lose weight. The smallest I’ve ever, ever been was a 6, and that was in high school. I also heard that I had a nose job and chin implants. I was like, Really? My nose is that good?

So what’s next for you? Everything is next! I’ve got a CoverGirl billboard in Times Square, but that’s just the beginning. I’m moving to New York, and I’m ready to knock down doors. [source: Us Weekly]
