What to Drink and How Much

Regular soft drinks are now the number one beverage in America, according to the USDA. Unfortunately, these drinks are loading our diets with empty calories that do not fill us up.

This is why the Beverage Guidance Panel – a six-person committee of public-health and nutrition scientists – created the following plan for the drinking man.

Suggested beverage consumption for a person on a 2,200-calorie diet: at least 98 ounces of total fluids daily is advised.

Alcohol or Fruit Juice (up to 4 ounces a day)

Low-Fat Milk (up to 16 ounces a day)

Unsweetened Tea or Coffee (up to 28 ounces a day)

Water (50 ounces a day) [source: Mean's Health]
