What Is Creatine?
Continued from Side Effects of Creatine.
Creatine, or methylguanidino acetic acid, is a naturally occurring compound found in abundance in skeletal muscle. It’s available dietarily in red meat (4.5 g/kg in beef, 5 g/kg in pork) and fish (10 g/kg in herring, 4.5 g/kg in salmon).
Creatine is found in smaller amounts in milk (0.1 g/kg), cranberries (0.02 g/kg), and there are trace amounts in shrimp. Creatine is essential for energy transmission and storage.
