Weight Loss at 60

I am 60 years old and ran a marathon within the last 6 months but I do not seem to be able to lose the 10 pounds I want to lose. Is there an age related answer? Donna.

Are you sure you need to lose 10 pounds? I mean, if you can run a marathon at 60, you have got to be in great shape. Does your doctor know that you want to lose weight? If you have not told him or her about it, you need to do that.

But to answer your question, generally speaking, it is harder to lose weight with age. There are a number of reasons why that is, the main one being that your metabolism is considerably slower than when you were, say, 40. Of course, the slower your metabolism the harder it is to burn calories, which may explain why it is hard for you to lose 10 pounds, but there could be many other reasons as well. Talk to your doctor about it.
