Sugar: Liver
As you probably already know, sugar and starch makes you gain weight. Correction, there is nothing wrong with consuming some sugar and starch, but if your diet is high in sugar and starch, your weight is probably not where you want it to be.
But did you know that eating too much sugar in the form of simple carbohydrates may harm your liver? Duke University researchers report that because excess blood sugar is converted to fat in your liver, it can accumulate and lead to nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.
The solution? A low-carb diet, of course. The scientists found that patients who adhered to low-carb diets not only lost weight but reversed their condition in 6 months. You are most at risk if you have fasting blood glucose greater than 100 milligrams (mg) per deciliter, indicating that your body does not process carbs well. [source: Men's Health]
