One recent study recommends 10 times the current level of vitamin D – from 200 IU to 2,000 IU daily – to support young people’s long-term bone and overall health.

“Our research reveals that vitamin D, at doses equivalent to 2,000 IUs a day, is not only safe for adolescents, but it is actually necessary for achieving desirable vitamin D levels,” researchers say.
