Soluble fiber supplements – useful or useless? Soluble fiber supplements have been around for longer than I care to remember, but the question is: Do you need to take soluble fiber supplements to improve your overall health or to lose weight in one month? And here is another question: Assuming soluble fiber supplements aid weight loss, can they also aid you to lose 20 pounds in 1 month?

The conventional wisdom tells us that getting enough fiber by eating a wide variety of vegetables, fruits and whole grains is the way to go, and I agree with that. It is also true, however, that it is not always possible to eat enough produce to reach our daily fiber requirements. As for weight loss, according to a recent scientific study, soluble fiber supplements induce greater levels of satiety than placebo. Hello chia seeds!

Two groups of overweight people were given either placebo or soluble fiber supplements for 16 weeks. The result? The overweight group taking soluble fiber supplements had lover appetite and lost more weight than the placebo group. Another benefit? Their LDL (bad) cholesterol significantly decreased compared to the group that was not taking any supplements.

The bottom line on soluble fiber supplements Look, I am the guy who always says that supplements are unnecessary and even potentially dangerous, which is still true. But in this case we are not talking about taking diet pills or vitamins; we are talking about natural soluble fiber supplements. Do you need to take them to lose weight?

No you do not. You can certainly lose weight without any fiber supplements. Can they lower your “bad” cholesterol and help you lose weight? Perhaps. Keep in mind, however, that following a good diet is more important than anything else. If you do not eat healthy and if you do not exercise, taking soluble fiber supplements or any other supplements for that matter, would do as much good as smoking and running at the same time.
