Sicko: Does Michael Moore Sicken Big Pharma with ‘Sicko’?
Sicko is a new movie documentary by Michael Moore with its sights set on American health care and pharmaceutical industries. It has not been released yet, but it is generating quite a buzz in a media.
The pharmaceutical industry is already calling Sicko “one-sided and biased“, while others are going a bit further by actually blaming skyrocketing health care costs, and high prescription drug prices on overweight Americans.
According to Mr. Moore, “Sicko is a comedy about 45 million people with no health care in the richest country on earth“, but the movie is still in production, so he is not willing to disclose any more details about it.
However, he points out that in a process of making this movie, as was the case with his other movies, “what we start with is not always what we end with“. He seems to promise that Sicko will be different from those movies that just badmouth HMOs and the pharmaceutical companies.
But regardless of what Michael Moore says, pharmaceutical companies remain skeptical, and have advised employees not to cooperate with Moore.
In an attempt to get some juicy material for Sicko, Mr. Moore putout a call for people to send him letters describing their experience with the health case system. He received 19,000 letters.
Personally, I reserve my judgment until I see the movie, if not impartial, it should at lest be entertaining, and somewhat informative.
