The 2003 American Idol winner Ruben Studdard a.k.a “Velvet Teddy Bear“, has been busy lately. He recently released his third album, The Return, and, while at it, somehow managed to find enough time to get in a better physical shape.
Ruben Studdard’s weight loss has been estimated to be 100 pounds. In his recent interview, he sets the record straight – “I only lost 70” – - only 70?
Okay, because of his starting weight, some people (you know who you are) said that Ruben Studdard’s weight loss is not that impressive – - I beg to differ, and I wonder if people realize how much weight that is.
Even if he needs to lose another 100 pounds (which he probably does not), anybody who lost that much weight should be proud of what they did.
I really wanted to get in shape because I have a family history of diabetes and high blood pressure and things of that nature. I felt like it was necessary for me to combat those issues at a young age before it became a bigger issue. I went to this place called Duke Diet & Fitness Center for a month and learned how to change my eating habits. Two weeks after leaving there I turned to a vegetarian diet. It’s been wonderful.
For Studdard, the hardest food to give up was chicken – - these days, he is grappling to stay away from French fries.
The one thing I had to figure out is that there are just as many healthy choices in food as there are bad choices. When I am ordering with a group I just look for the healthy choices. The working out for me (is hard) because our schedule is so hectic. [via]
Hectic or not, Ruben Shtuddard’s weight loss is a great example of how even those who live busy lives can successfully lose a lot of weight.
