Rowbike: Does Rowbike Burn More Calories?

Rowbike? What in the world is that? Can Rowbike help you burn more calories than an ordinary bike? That is what some experts claim. Is it actually true?

Rowbike can be described as a cross between a rowing machine and a recumbent bike, which promises that you will burn as much as 50 percent more calories than you would on an ordinary two-wheeler.

To move the Rowbike forward, you need to rest both feet on regular pedals (but the pedals do not actually move), you move the Rowbike by pulling the handlebar toward you chest, which makes the seat glide horizontally. It is confusing, I know. In short, it is like rowing a boat, sort of, you just look really goofy while doing it.  It probably takes more than several tries to get used to it, but as soon as you do, you can expect to keep up with people who ride regular bikes.

Aside from strange looks you will no doubt receive as you “row” the Rowbike, you should feel the soreness in your muscles the next day, which often indicates that you had a pretty good workout.

Does this contraption really burn more calories than a regular bike? I do not know; it seems as though you are doing more work when riding the Rowbike. On the other hand, on a regular bike, your quads, glutes, and hamstrings (your large muscles) doing the work, in this case, however, your upper body (read smaller muscle groups) is mostly involved. I am not convinced that the Rowbike burns more calories than a conventional bike. [Image via]
