Reloxin: Wrinkle Eraser

Reloxin: Wrinkle Eraser

With Botox generating annual worldwide sales of $1.2 billion, it was only a matter of time before other drugmakers tried to get in on the act. Now there are three new injectable wrinkle erasers in the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s trial phase; one of them, Reloxin, another form of botulinum Type A, is expected to hit the market in early 2009.

Reloxin will not differ much from Botox – some docs believe its effects may kick in faster and last longer – but there still will be one clear advantage to consumers, who typically pay at least $400 per treatment. “The hope is this will bring the price of Botox down,” says L.A. dermatologist Mark Rubin.

The Botox Goes Where? Botox can also get rid of the following:

A gummy smile A tiny drop of Botox near the nose, says New York City-based dermatologist Frederic Brandt, makes sure “the lips don’t get pulled up, so the gums aren’t exposed.”

A clenched jaw Botox is being used to relax jaw muscles, which helps alleviate pain from grinding or a joint disorder.

A droopy nose A shot in the tip of the nose “can lift it up,” says Dr. Brandt. [source: People]
