Quaker Weight Control Oatmeal
The ad for Quaker Weight Control Oatmeal says the following:
“Quaker has a new way to take weight off your mind. Now Quaker Weight Control Oatmeal comes in Maple & Brown Sugar flavor. It’s specially formulated to help fill you and help you lose weight.”
The fine print reveals the real story behind Quaker Weight Control Oatmeal. Here is what it says:
“Research shows that Quaker Weight Control Oatmeal, when eaten as part of a reduced-calorie diet with moderate exercise, can help you lose weight.”
Imagine that! If you reduce your daily calorie intake and exercise, you will lose weight.
But the real question here is this: Do you really need Quaker Weight Control Oatmeal to lose weight?
Answer: Okay, it is not fair to ask a question like that, because if you think about it, there is no single food that anybody can effectively use to lose weight and Quaker Weight Control Oatmeal is no exception. Having said that, they have done a pretty good job with this product; it contains whole grain oats, 6 grams of fiber and 7 grams of protein and no added sugar.
The bottom line: I do not want to sound like a broken record, but if you are not eating breakfast and want to lose weight, you are fighting an uphill battle.
Quaker Weight Control Oatmeal is not perfect – given that it contains 23 grams of net carbs, they should have formulated it with more protein – but it is a good breakfast choice especially given the fact that you can easily add some protein powder to it to balance out the carbs.
