Has it really come to this? I certainly hope not, and with this Baked Pear recipe – if you were to watch me in the kitchen – the only choice I make is “Should I eat all four servings alone or share with my family?”

2 pears, peeled, halved, and cored
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
1 tablespoon lemon juice, freshly squeezed
1/4 teaspoon ground pepper
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 tablespoons water
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
