Organic food vs. conventional food – who is the winner? The organic food vs. conventional food debate has been going on longer than I care to remember. A number of recent studies concluded that nutritionally speaking, organic produce is not better than conventionally grown produce. It does not contain more vitamins or minerals, but it does cost more.
Yet according to a new study from France, organic vegetables and fruits seem to offer more health benefits than conventionally grown fruits and vegetables. French researches claims that organic produce contain more antioxidants, vitamins and minerals (iron and magnesium, specifically). In addition, close to 100 percent of organic fruits and vegetables do not contain common pesticides.
So what do we make of this? Should you spend more money on organic food? I do not know; if you can afford it, why not? On the other hand, this study comes from France. Do they have exactly the same organic standards as we do here in the United States? If they do not, the results of this study are not relevant to our organic food.
