My boyfriend told me I can lose a ton of weight if I use one of those nicotine patches: is this true?
I received this question from Val in Iowa via Ask Questions.
I wish it were not true, but some professional bodybuilders use nicotine patches as a weight loss aid. As far as I know, many of them have admitted that it was a mistake to do so, because they have experienced unpleasant side effects.
Nicotine is an appetite suppressant, but particularly in women, it also suppresses your estrogen hormone, which could lead to a hormonal imbalance. In addition, nicotine is a very addictive substance. If you are not a smoker, the use of a nicotine patch could lead to a nicotine addiction.
Some other possible side effects with the nicotine patches are rapid heartbeat, nausea, dizziness and vomiting. I am not even going to talk about cancer and other potential health problems…
In my opinion, using something like this for weight loss is one of the worst possible things you can do.
