Milk in Coffee: Protein in Mushrooms

Greetings from Greece, and congratulations on your site, which I consider the best of its kind.

I have heard from friends that pouring milk in your coffee can slow down your metabolism. I guess it is a silly myth but I would like to confirm it :-)

Also, are grilled pleurotus mushrooms a good protein source? I really like their taste, but I need to know if I should eat them post-workout or before.

Thanks a lot! Consatntinos. [via Ask Questions]

Thank you for the kind words, Greece is awesome!

I add milk to my coffee all the time, but I have not noticed any issues with my metabolism. You are right, it is a myth. There is no reason to believe that a combination of milk and coffee slows down metabolism.

Mushrooms are rather low in protein. On average, 100 grams of mushrooms contain about 4 grams of protein or less, which is obviously not a lot. Mushrooms do not contain a lot of carbohydrates either, well, most of them do not (cooked shitake are a little high in carbs) – which means you can eat them before or after your workout.
