Mario Lopez: Workout and Diet

Mario Lopez Workout and Diet

Mario Lopez is clearly very fit and healthy; what is also clear is that a body like that does not come easy. How does Mario do it? The details of Mario’s diet and workout are in his book, but in a recent interview, he revealed some information about how he stays in top shape.

Do you still get in the ring at Wild Card and box? I spar all the time. Freddie Roach [the gym’s owner] has what he calls smokers. They’re like amateur bouts. I pretty much fight guys who are trying to make it in boxing.

Are you any good? I’ve fought in six smokers and haven’t lost yet.

Is that good for your face? The headgear they have these days really protects your nose. You can still get knocked out and lumped up. You just don’t get disfigured.

Ever spar with a pro? I’ve sparred with [Oscar] De La Hoya, James Toney, Shane Mosley. Oscar is a friend of mine. He wrote the foreword to my book, Mario Lopez’s Knockout Fitness.

What’s the focus of the book? It’s not a get-in-shape-quick scheme. I’m going to tell you the truth. Getting in shape is hard work, but it can also be fun work. I give readers a lot of options, a lot of very cool programs. I’ve also included great nutritional information. It took me a year to get the book where I wanted it.

You wrestled in high school, you box and bodybuild now. What attracts you to individual sports? If there’s no team, your flaws and strengths will come out. You’re at your most vulnerable. If you lose, you have no one to blame but yourself, but if you win you get all the glory.

Why do you train so much? I love to eat and I feel I can get away with a lot more if I train hard. Plus, I love the way it makes me feel. I walk out of the gym and I feel Zenlike. Nothing feels like it can bother me. [via]
