Lower abs exercises
I’m 19 years old, trying to lose weight for the past 4 months. My upper abs are starting to show, but my lower abs are not visible. What are the best exercises for my lower abs? Thanks, Bernard. [via Ask Questions]
In my opinion, lower abs exercises are overrated. There does not appear to be a way to isolate a particular part of the abdominal muscle with a specific exercise. The reason for this is that your upper abs and your lower abs are one sheet of muscle.
Instead of focusing on lower abs exercises, if you have not done this already, you could see more progress with your weight loss, if you work your abs indirectly with basic multi-joint exercises, such as deadlifts, squats, bent rows, etc.
These exercises are known to be more effective at raising your metabolism, because they involve large muscle groups. By the way, did I mention that there is no connection between lower abs exercises – or any abdominal exercises – and the visibility of your abs?
As you lose weight, your abs become visible, because your body fat decreases. Still, some studies did notice a very small difference in muscle activity between the upper and lower abs with reverse crunches and hanging knee raises.
