Low Fat, Low Cholesterol Diet Plan Fails

The Diet Hypocrisy

There is plenty of debate about how good a low-fat diet is. A study completed by Dr. Christine L. Pelkman, assistant professor of nutrition at the University at Buffalo, found a moderate-fat diet, rich in mono-unsaturated fats resulted in a better blood cholesterol profile.

“A low-fat diet can raise your triglycerides and reduce your good cholesterol (the high density kind),” says Pelkman.

Pre-Posture-ous

It seems our teachers and parents may have been wrong for telling us to sit up straight.

Researchers at Aberdeen in Scotland using magnetic resonance imaging have shown that sitting with a completely straight back with legs parallel to the floor (as on a standard chair) places unnecessary strain on your back.

“Sitting with your hips higher than your knees conforms to a more open and comfortable posture that back specialists have long suspected,” says Dr. Waseen Bashir, author of the study and clinical fellow at the University of Alberta.

“We confirm this position leads to less ’strain’ to the normal lower back and can be approached by sitting on those kneeling chairs or even a gym ball.”
