I am 14 years old and want to lose weight by september 3, 2010. I am 185 right now and would really like to get down to 120. I am willing to do almost anything to lose weight (things that are not harmful to me) except i can not join a gym but i can work out and run and other things like that at home. How can I lose weight as quickly AND healthy as possible because I’m not that person to start vomiting up what they just ate. I want to look good and be healthy by the time the new school years starts which really gives me 3 months. Ashley J. [via Ask Questions]
So, what you are saying is that you want to lose 65 pounds in 3 months. But is it even possible to lose 60 pounds in 3 months? The short answer is no. You need 30 weeks (more than 7 months) to lose 60 pounds, and you probably need close to 8 months to lose 65 pounds. These are conservative estimates, but when it comes to setting weight-loss expectations and goals, it is a good idea to set low expectations.
As you can see, it takes time to lose 65 pounds. It is great that you want to lose weight without putting your health in danger, but you need to realize that trying to lose weight as fast as possible is not a good weight-loss strategy. The good news, however, is that you do not need to go to the gym to lose weight, and you can lose weight without dieting. How? Here is how.
The best exercise for weight loss is walking. Start walking every day for at least 30 minutes. In about two weeks after your starting date, walk for 45 minutes every other day. In two more weeks, switch back to walking at least 30 minutes every day. Mix it up, try walking for 1 hour on some days, but if you feel drained and low on energy after a walk, it is a sign that you are overtraining. You should feel refreshed and energized, not drained.
As for dieting, since you are only 14, I do not think you should change your diet without an explicit permission to do so from your parents and from your doctor. Speaking of your parents, do they know that you want to lose weight? At this age, you have to lose weight under their supervision. If they do not know about your weight-loss plans, you have to let them know about it.
