Lose 50 Pounds in a Month

I need to lose 50 pounds in a month. Can I lose 50 pounds in a month or is it impossible to lose 50 pounds in a month? I’m going on vacation with my new boyfriend, but I look really fat. I’m willing to starve myself and do whatever it takes to lose 50 pounds in a month. I really want to look good and I don’t know what to do. I’ve tried running and eating oatmeal for breakfast but I haven’t lost any weight. I think I’ve actually gained a few pounds, which is scary. Why am I gaining weight when I eat healthy and exercise? Can you please help me lose 50 pounds in a month? What do I need to eat and how much should I exercise? Please help me. Thanks Rachel. [via Ask Questions]

As much as I would love to help you lose weight, the truth is that it is impossible to lose 50 pounds in a month. You simply want to lose too much weight too quickly, which is understandable – we all want to lose as much weight as possible as quickly as possible – but even with the help of the sugar detox, very few people can lose 5 pounds in a week.

Assuming you can lose 5 pounds in a week, it would take 10 weeks or two months and two weeks to lose 50 pounds. Given ideal circumstances, an average person can only lose about 2 pounds per week, which means that on average it takes about 25 weeks or about 6 months to lose 50 pounds. I know some people who have managed to lose 20 pounds in 1 month, but trying to do something like this is not recommended and given how low the success rate is, I would argue that dropping this much weight in such a short period of time is actually counterproductive because it can easily lead to yo-yo dieting.

Having said that, I am not saying you should give up and not try to lose weight at all. I am not saying that at all. Do try to lose weight. It is better to lose 10 pounds than not to lose any weight at all. Losing 10 pounds might not seem like much when your goal is to lose 50 pounds, but it is a good start and a valuable learning experience that should help you lose the rest of the weight.

Start slow. Do not cut out any major food groups from your diet. Your daily calorie intake is obviously very important. You cannot lose weight if you consistently consume more calories than you burn, but there is no need to be obsessed with counting every single calorie you eat. In fact, if you eat healthy, you do not need to count calories at all. So eat healthy. What does it mean to eat healthy?

It means not eating fast food, sweets and staying as far away as possible from fruit juices and soda. Do eat vegetables, fish, chicken, turkey, shrimps, egg whites, eggs, grass-fed beef, salads, leafy greens, canned fish, protein shakes, dairy, fruits, healthy oils, and complex carbohydrates. You also need to exercise. Walking is the best form of exercise for weight loss, but any activity that will get you moving is better than not doing anything at all.
