Lose 5 pounds in 5 days. Some health magazine. What do they have in common? Apparently, some people seem to think that it is possible to lose 5 pounds in 5 days, because a number of health-related magazines claim that it is possible. But why 5 pounds in 5 days? What is wrong with trying to lose 5 pounds in 2 days? I mean, if it is really possible to lose one pound a day for five consecutive days, it should be possible to lose five pounds in just 2 days, right?
Wrong. Health magazines make a lot of claims, but just because they do, it does not mean that they are all true. I am not saying that it is absolutely impossible to lose 5 pounds in 5 days. Some people can probably do it. What I am saying is that having such a goal is not smart. Chances are, you will be disappointed by the results. Why? They are two reasons. First, it is unsustainable. If you need to lose more than 5 pounds, do you really expect that you will be able to continue losing 1 pound a day until you reach your weight-loss goal?
Second, regardless of how much weight you need to lose, your focus should not be on how much weight you can lose in certain amount of days. Your focus should be on understanding why you have gained weight in the first place. Once you understand that, start working on changing your eating habits and staying active. That is all you need to do to lose weight. Focus on what you want, not on what you do not want. Do not focus on a fact that you are overweight. Focus on learning how to eat healthy.
