Hi, I need to lose 20 pounds in 1 month, but I don’t know how to lose 20 pounds in 1 month. I’m leaving to california to visit a few family members and I gain 40lbs after I had my baby I want to lose at least 20 pounds in a month can I do it? How? Lupe. [via Ask Questions]
Okay, so you want to lose 20 pounds in 1 month, but the question is: Can you lose 20 pounds in 1 month? Maybe you can accomplish that, but a better question is probably this: Is it reasonable to expect to lose 20 pounds in 1 month?
You see, I do not know if you can lose 20 pounds in 1 month, but I do know that it is unreasonable to have such a goal. Why? Because to lose 20 pounds in just one month, you need to sustain a weigh-loss rate of 5 pounds a week for four consecutive weeks.
Do not get me wrong, some people can lose 5 pounds a week for 4 weeks in a row – believe it or not, some people can even lose about 8 pounds for a few weeks in a row – but most people cannot do that.
So, how much weight can you expect to lose in one week? About 2 pounds, which means you can probably lose about 8 pounds in one month, maybe you can lose 10 pounds, if your metabolism is above average.
As for how to lose weight, take a look at this and this. In short, to lose 20 pounds or any amount of weight for that matter, you need to change your eating habits and you also need to become more physically active.
Minimize or completely eliminate simple sugars from your diet. If you crave sugar, eat a wide variety of fruits. Focus on protein, vegetables and whole grains. If you want to increase your chances of losing weight quickly, eat only berries, fiber-rich vegetables, good fats, and lean protein.
As for exercise, start moving more than you do now. You do not have to go to the gym, but you have to find a way to move around more. Arguably, the easiest way to accomplish this is simply by walking. Walking is a great exercise. Start by walking at least three times a week for about 30 minutes. As you make progress, walk at least four times a week for at least 30 minutes.
