Live or Diet

Have you seen Weight Watchers’ new advertising campaign? It is called “Live or Diet and I am not sure I understand what they are trying to say with this message. After all, a diet is defined as a selection of food designed to help people lose weight.
A diet can also be described as a limitation on the amount a person eats for the purpose of weight reduction. Isn’t this what Weight Watchers is all about? Their points system is designed to limit food intake.

I think that although your definitions are correct, MOST people needing to look weight WOULDN'T have those definitions come to mind initially...the words that THEY might most commonly site are words like "deprivation" - "NOT living (having to give up all the things you enjoy)" - the point of the ad campaign is that if you approach weight loss with THOSE messages...you WON'T be living your life...with Weight Watchers you CAN live (and don't need to "diet" i.e. deprive, etc.)...Having lost 100 pounds with them 20 years ago...I can attest to that!
