LighterLife Diet

I am being told that cutting too many calories will cause your body to go into starvation mode. But the LighterLife diet restricts you to 500 per day. How can this be?  I am so puzzled please help. Thanks, lyndamaylane. [via Ask Questions]

I am not familiar with the LighterLife diet, which means I cannot tell you whether or not the LighterLife diet is a good diet to follow. But I can tell you this: Assuming it is true that the LighterLife diet restricts calories to just 500 calories a day, you should stay far away from this diet.

You are correct; it is not a good idea to cut too many calories from your diet. And it is definitely not a good idea to do so suddenly. In most cases, you should never drop your daily calorie intake to below 1,200 calories per day. If the LighterLife diet prescribes only 500 calories per day, it is a starvation diet. It goes without saying that any diet which puts your body into a starvation mode should be avoided.
