Lettuce E. coli recallJust when I felt safe to start eating spinach again, another California-based company [not responsible for the recent spinach-E. coli scare], initiated a voluntary recall of lettuce.

This time, it appears we have lettuce-E. coli situation on our hands. What is going on with our produce? If these E. coli related recalls continue, I might be forced to start nightly raids on my neighbor’s garden - - just kidding.

The current lettuce-E. coli recall covers Arizona, California, Nevada, Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana. At this time, there is no information if the lettuce caused any illnesses.

The lettuce could have been sold to restaurants, so be wary of any lettuce when eating out. According to the recall information, the lettuce was sold under Foxy brand name.

The recalled lettuce was packaged as “Green Leaf 24 Count, waxed carton,” and “Green Leaf 18 Count, cellophane sleeve, returnable carton.” Packaging is stamped with lot code 6SL0024. [...] Executives ordered the recall after learning that water used to irrigate lettuce fields may have been contaminated with E. coli - - says the company.
