‘Lemonade Diet’ Prevents Kidney Stones

Lemonade Diet Prevents Kidney StonesAre you still holding out hope for a lemonade diet to do something useful? If you are, it appears that a lemonade diet could provide some health benefits after all.

This time the recipe is different, so it is not really the Lemonade Diet, but it still calls for drinking some lemonade.

If you are afraid of kidney stones, mix 4 ounces of lemon juice in 28 ounces of water and drink this solution daily.

According to a study conducted at Duke University, this lemonade recipe creates high levels of urinary citrate, which helps prevent development of kidney stones.

However, if kidney stones are not your concern, I would not drink lemonade daily. In unrelated study at University of Maryland, out of 12 beverages, Snapple lemonade was found to be the most damaging to tooth enamel.

In either case, it is a good idea not to use sugar to sweeten your homemade lemonade. Use a sugar substitute of your choice – Erythritol is my favorite.

That's interesting! A UT Southwestern study indicated that orange juice is better than lemonade, though. Apparently, there's a difference in the type of urinary citrates formed.
