Jumping Rope: Weight Loss Exercises

Jumping Rope: Weight Loss ExercisesContinued from How Many Calories Does Jumping Rope Burn?

Jumping rope can burn an impressive amount of calories in a relatively short time, which makes it an attractive exercise for weight loss or general fitness purposes.

Do it this way: March in place for a few minutes, then start with a circuit of 1 minute each of traditional jumping, High Step, and Skier’s Jump, resting 60 seconds in between.

Gradually decrease rest time and work up to jumping nonstop for 15 minutes. If you are short on time, do one circuit as a quick heart-rate boost. (If you have knee issues, stick with lower-impact cardio, like walking.)

High Step: Switch feet while you jump, lifting knees up to about waist level and landing on your toes.

Skier’s Jump: With your feet together and knees slightly bent, jump a few inches to the right, then to the left; repeat.

To improve your rope jumping performance, wear comfortable shoes and consider getting a jump rope with ball bearings in the handles, which make turns fast and smooth. [via]
