Some people love to indulge in those small bottles of airplane liquor and wine while in the air. But Dr. Brunilda Nazario, senior medical editor at WebMD, warns that it’s essential to avoid alcohol and caffeine. “The dehydrating effects of the cabin may cause your body to leach water from your intestinal track.
This causes digestive problems such as bloating and constipation.” To further minimize these effects, registered dietitian Sharon Richter explains the basics of the Jet Lag diet. Here is what you should be consuming in the air.
The Jet Lag diet Skip the soda and sugary drinks and opt for water. “Sometimes the carbonated drinks along with the air pressure give people stomachaches,” explains Richter.
Airplane meals are usually high in carbs and sodium. If possible, order a low-carb/low-sodium meal ahead of time.
Your best option is to pack your own meal. “That way you know exactly what is in your food,” says Richter. And make sure to lay off the sodium.
