Jennifer Hudson on Weight Loss

Jennifer Hudson on Weight LossDoes fashion still favor thin women? Unfortunately, the answer is yes. But the rules do not seem to apply to certain celebrities and Jennifer Hudson is one of them.

Many actresses were carb-counting for weeks in preparation to the figure-flaunting gowns they have donned at the 79th-annual Academy Awards. Not Jennifer Hudson.

“I’m not starving myself for nobody,” says Hudson who can’t resist chocolate-chip cookies. And fashion’s big names, it seems, can’t resist her. The size-12 Hudson was flooded with offers from all the major fashion houses.

“High fashion loves a skinny girl, but any woman who is confident can carry the right dress,” designer Marc Bouwer, who has outfitted Hudson, tells Us magazine. “Jennifer knows how to carry herself and always looks unbelievable.”

Hudson joins other high-profile actresses, like America Ferrera and Sara Ramirez, who refuse to downsize to fit Hollywood’s standards. And it seems the phenomenon of curvier women onscreen is here to stay.

“Size isn’t so much of an issue anymore,” says Michael Speier, managing editor of Variety. “People have gotten the message in Hollywood, and the casting has become more normal.”

As for Hudson, she tells Us that she has no qualms about her 5-foot-9 figure. “[Being a size 2] is unrealistic, and I don’t want to be one. A size 10,12 or 14 is beautiful to me.”

Above all, Jennifer Hudson hopes to inspire other women who aren’t stick-thin. “I want the average-size girl to look at me and say, ‘Wow! She’s my size; she’s beautiful and she made it.’

“Everybody can’t be size 2. Somebody needs to be a role model, and I’m willing to be that,” says Hudson. I think she’s well on her way to doing that.
