Laser liposuction, a.k.a. SmartLipo, which obliterates body fat with, well, laser prior to its removal, is believed to minimize recovery time, swelling, and bruising.
But some doctors are skeptical about potential benefits of laser liposuction. The doctors in Chile decided to go over the cases of 25 women who had both laser liposuction and traditional liposuction.
They have found that post-SmartLipo pain was slightly less, but the operating time was a bit longer. And the fat left behind had an elevation of free fatty acids.
Peter Fodor, a Los Angeles plastic surgeon says that this is a side effect that may increase the inflammation of certain organs. The worst-case scenario? Cardiovascular complications; think a heart attack or even a stroke, but such outcome seems unlikely.
In addition, if you need some fat grafting work done, SmartLipo makes the removed fat unusable.
