1. Wash you face The ingredients common to a great shave are heat, moisture and shaving strokes. When washing your face, you’re heating up the surface and softening it with moisture.

2. Preparation This is the single most important part of the shave. After warming the skin with a hot towel, use a pre shave oil that will soften the beard, get your whiskers to stand up straight, open your pores and make your skin more elastic. This reduces ingrown hairs.

3. Shave Use a glycerin-based shaving cream, which moisturizes the skin and reduces friction by allowing a better glide for the blade. Shave with the grain first. Shaving against the grain pulls the hair and shocks the follicle. People with sensitive skin shouldn’t shave against the grain at all.

4. Tone This helps restore your skin’s pH balance, closes the pores, cleans the skin and tightens it back up. An aftershave skin toner should be witch hazel-based.

5. Finish Apply a moisturizing lotion or sunscreen. On the days when you dont shave, just wash, tone and finish.
