How to Lose 5 Pounds in a Month

I need to know how to lose 5 pounds in a month. I am looking to lose 5 pounds a month for the next 12 months. Any advice? I am currently 5’6″ and 290 lbs. Although I hold my weight better than most people my size, I am only 22 and realize I need to make a change. I have always been overweight, even as a child, but in my teens it became a bigger issue as I was putting more and more weight on. Other family members on my mothers side all tend to be overweight and even though diabetes is not common in my family, I do not want to even risk it.

My diet is never planned. I wake up and rarely ever have breakfast, Most of the time because I’m never hungry. Unfortunately, fast food, eating out, and quick foods have become a common occurrence for me. Soda has always been in my diet as well. I am looking for something realistic to follow. I do not wish to be pencil thin, I love my curves and want to keep them, I just want them to be healthy curves! Thank you for any advice! Angela B. [via Ask Questions]

If you lose 5 pounds a month for 12 months, at the end of the year you will lose 60 pounds. Compared to some people trying to lose 5 pounds in 1 week or those who want to lose 10 pounds in 5 days, your weight-loss goal is very reasonable and realistic. Most people should not have any problems losing 5 pounds a month, but to lose 60 pounds in a year, you need to get your diet in order and change your eating habits.

What kind of changes do you need to make to lose 60 pounds in a year? I think you already know what I have in mind. Not eating breakfast, not planning ahead of time what you eat, eating fast food, drinking soda – wait, didn’t you mentioned all those things? Yes, you did. Seems to me, you know exactly what you need to change.

I know you said that you are looking for a realistic diet to follow, but the fact is, if you eat a healthy breakfast, if you stop drinking soda, if you limit your exposure to fast food, etc – you do not need anything to follow. Just making those changes to your existing diet should be enough for you to lose 5 pounds a month or 60 pounds in a year.
