Continued from Lose 40 Pounds.
Ross Long: Age: 47, Occupation: Managements, 24 Hour Fitness Club: Ocean Ave., San Francisco.
The Goal “Drop 30 pounds, so in my 50s I can join a hockey league – something I haven’t done since high school.”
The Plan “To avoid plateaus, my workout is always changing. I aim for 5 or 6 days a week of cardio, rotating between the treadmill, elliptical trainer, and bike.
The Obstacle “I’ve always quit before I reached my goals because I lack confidence. At my age, I wonder if I can lift big weights or throw myself in the air to do a clapping push-up without falling on my face – things I’ve never done before.”
The Solution The key to raising Ross’s confidence is to push him to levels beyond what he thinks he can do, says Mario Yimenez, his personal trainer at the Ocean Avenue 24 Hour Fitness.
At first, new exercises seem too challenging, but with practice (and smart, sensible progress) it’ll get easier, and he’ll gain confidence. [source]
