How Much Water Should I Drink to Lose Weight?

How much water should I drink to lose weight? Or maybe a better question is not “How much water should I drink to lose weight?”, but rather, “Can drinking cold water help me lose weight?”

So, what is the answer to the how much water should I drink question? That’s the thing, there is no straight answer. I do not know how this whole thing got started (maybe somebody misunderstood a study about drinking cold water), but it is basically a myth that drinking 10 glasses of cold water a day aids weight loss. It does not.

In fact, while it is important to make sure that you are properly hydrated, drinking too much water is not only not going to help you lose weight, it can make you gain weight, and it can lead to water intoxication (a.k.a. water poisoning), which in some cases can be deadly.

Having said that, the how much water should I drink to lose weight question is a valid question. Why? Because drinking some water before each meal can potentially help you eat less. The trick here is to drink just enough water to reduce your appetite, but not to suppress it completely. You still need to eat food to get all your nutrients – you also need calories from food to support your metabolism.

The bottom line on how much water should I drink question There are no set guidelines on how much water you should drink before each meal.
